The aircraft departed Fernando Po (Equatorial Guinea) on a humanitarian flight to Uli, carrying various goods on behalf of the International Red Cross Committee of the Red Cross. While in cruising altitude, the four engine aircraft was shot down by the pilot of a Nigerian Air Force MiG-17 and crashed. All four crew members were killed.

The crew was completing a humanitarian flight on behalf of the United Nations Organization (UNO). On short final, the airplane was too low and struck a sand pile with its left main gear. The pilot-in-command continued the approach and completed the landing. After the aircraft was stopped, it was checked and eventually decided it was declared as damaged beyond repair.

Ndola Copperbelt

The airplane was conducting a special flight (UNO001) from Léopoldville to Ndola on behalf of the United Nations Organizations, carrying five crew members and a 11 passengers, among them Dag Hammarskjöld, United Nations General Secretary. During the final approach to Ndola by night, the four engine aircraft was too low, struck trees and crashed in flames in a wooded area located 15 km short of runway. The aircraft was totally destroyed and all 16 occupants have been killed.
