On April 21, 2012 at 08:13 AM, Santa Cruz - Cobija experienced a crash involving Curtiss C-46 Commando, operated by Sky Team Bolivia, with the event recorded near Santa Cruz-Viru Viru Santa Cruz.

The pilot, Major Lemaltre, was performing a solo flight from Puerto Suárez to Santa Cruz. On descent, the engine failed. He attempted to make an emergency landing when the aircraft stalled and crashed in a plantation located on a hillside, some 40 km southeast of the airport. While the pilot was injured, the aircraft named 'Potosí' was damaged beyond repair. The mishap occurred somewhere in December 1928, exact date unknown.

The seaplane came to rest in a muddy field. Both pilots Armando Suárez and Sergio Ríos Toro later obtained help and were able to leave. While approaching Colquiri, weather conditions deteriorated and the aircraft hit a mountain slope and was wrecked. Both pilots were injured, Sergio Ríos Toro more seriously.
